Jamie 2 - Exploring the Yard make_noise

Jamie set her jaw with grim determination, then leaped up and ran straight at Mittens. Mittens looked at her in surprise, as if she were dreaming. Then she raised her rear and set her feet to pounce.

At the last second, Jamie turned and ran for the house as fast as she could. Mittens pounced on the wrong spot, leaped to her feet, and gave chase. Although Mittens was the faster runner, Jamie used every bit of grass or rock to confuse her path and keep Mittens guessing. Much to Mitten's (and Jamie's) surprise, Jamie reached the house without a scratch and slipped back into the wall. Mittens was so furious at having lost her prize that she neglected to stop in time, and ran ker-WHAP right into the wall.

Nor did it help Mittens pride that Jamie laughed - out loud - at her success. Mittens made a dash for her cat door, but by the time she reached Lucy's room, Jamie was safe in her cage with the door securely latched. Forgetting her usual caution, Mittens leaped onto the table and reached for the door - just as a persistent BEEP - BEEP - BEEP echoed through the house.

Jamie smiled. Mittens didn't know about the black mat that Lucy had placed at Jamie's door, to try to catch Jamie escaping. But it served a much better purpose, from Jamie's point of view. Mittens was thoroughly swatted, and then tossed from the house. "It would be a long time before she bothers ME again!" Jamie decided with satisfaction.

"Mittens may be larger than me," Jamie thought. "But its brains that make the difference in the end."
