A Walk in the Woods title_continued

A Walk in the Woods

Saturday! And how! Sunny and mild, a light breeze, the leaves on the trees just starting their change from the green of summer to the varied pallette of fall. A perfect day for a walk!

You leave your house by the back door and follow the trail into the tree-covered hills. After a mile or so, deep in the woods, you pass an apple tree loaded with red fruit, its branches so low you must duck to walk underneath. As you reappear on the other side, you reach up and select your breakfast from its boughs.

After a hearty rub on your shirt, the apple's skin shines so brightly you can almost see yourself. Mouth watering, you bring it to your mouth...

EEEIIIIIIYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!

The scream comes deep from within you as the ground beneath your feet collapses. You feel yourself falling... falling... falling...

Your world goes black.

You wake up with a dull pounding in your head. As your vision clears, you see the sky through a small hole in the roof, fifteen feet away. Feeling slowly returns to your body, and you gingerly rise to your feet.

You are in a small room about fifteen feet underground. Sunlight streams in through the hole in the roof. A pile of rocks dominates the west wall; a slow-moving underground stream crosses the northern third of the room. Passageways are open to the south, east, and west.

Enter the southern passageway.

Enter the eastern passageway.

Enter the western passageway.

Try to jump out the hole in the roof.

Search the rock pile.

Look around again.
