Quotes I Like*

In the sentence of life, the devil may be a comma--but never let him be the period.

*Your mileage may vary. Some quotes are puns, or require historical or technical literacy to appreciate. If you miss the humor, please re-read the Internet and then try again.

Shaped for Joyful Living

Aim: To encourage joyful living based on faith that God watches over us and always keeps His promises

Core Competency: Joy

Objectives: The children will

  • Recognize the difference between happiness and joy
  • Understand that God is completely faithful
  • Choose to live a joyful Christian life regardless of circumstances

Key Verse: Be joyful always. ( 1 Thessalonians 5:16 )

Story: "Sarah Laughs Twice " ( Genesis 21 )

Materials Required:

  • Aluminum foil
  • Bowl, Large
  • Pennies, 10
  • Water

Eye on Science:

Place the water in the bowl. Ask the children if pennies wrapped in aluminum foil will float (take a vote). Announce that both groups are correct! Wrap 5 pennies tightly in aluminum foil, and place in the water (sinks like a rock). This represents Christians who are "all wrapped up in themselves", and thus miss out on the joy of their salvation.

Shape a piece of aluminum foil like a boat, and place 5 pennies inside. Place the boat on the water - it floats "on a sea of happiness". This represents a Christian who has allowed God to mold his life to God's will. Rather than trying to "get happy", this Christian has faith that God will watch over him and keep His promises to provide for all our needs.
