The Paris Metro
We traveled the Paris Metro to our hotel, which was not a smart decision. (It was, paradoxly, the only decision, as the taxi drivers looked like thugs and demanded $110 to take us to the hotel). Like the London Tube, the Metro specializes in flights of stairs which go with heavy suitcases like oil and water. The saving grace was that we arrived late, and thus didn't contend with the usual crowds.
Later, however, we discovered that musicians sometimes work the Metro. This is a hit or miss proposition, I'm afraid. We endured one brass "band" featuring a baritone player who hit at least 5% of the correct notes (no tip for that group). The hammer dulcimer player below, however, was excellent (and I have a soft spot for the hammer dulcimer, I'm afraid) - so I gave up some pocket weight in exchange for a photograph.
If you're in Paris and see him, thank him for brightening my day.
