En Route to Paris
The Eurostar train was nice. We had essentially a private compartment in first class, with a four-person table for the kids and a two-person table (just out of the picture to the right) for Janet and me. We enjoyed champagne, followed by shrimp cocktail, salad, filet of poisson (with crab filling and lobster sauce), and cheesecake for dessert.
Elizabeth, Carol and I played a rather extended game of 3-handed Uno while Janet and Dale read. OK, Janet slept, but she kept a book open in front of her.
We passed through the Chunnel (the tunnel under the English Channel) with surprising speed - since we were running a bit late, the conductor apparently went maximum speed. We still arrived an hour late, for which the French conductor repeatedly apologized in both English ("We appreciate your comprehension") and French.
