Picnic in France
No trolleys on the train, remember? So, at the midpoint (Montpelier), we paused at the train station to obtain sandwiches ("jambon et frommage", or ham and cheese) and Coca-Cola Light. Taking advantage of the terrain, we set up a private area and picnicked. Tres bien!
The only problem remaining was getting the suitcases on the train. It was a bit late, so the conductor apparently set the doors to close every 5 seconds with enough force that Janet could not hold them open. I had to wedge my battered body in the door while dragging 50 pound suitcases over my head. A uniformed stationmaster helped me by blowing a whistle in my ear and yelling in French.
